एक रोज़ आयी थी पड़ोस में
आँखों में आयी पहचान बन के
कब हुए सिलसिले नहीं पता
छा गयी दिल में मेहमां बन के

ख़ूबसूरत सी नीली आँखों से
देखती जाती थी बस बेफिक्र
कभी हंसती कभी इठलाती
मैंने नाम दे दिया नीलोफर

हर रोज़ मेरा उसे दिखने को
घंटों छत पर इंतज़ार करना
नज़रें मिलने ही बस बेबस
दीवारों का दीदार करना

न बयां करना उसने ही कुछ
न मेरा कभी इज़हार करना
पर हर वक्त मेरी आँखों का
दिल को मेरे बेकरार करना

आखिर एक दिन ऐसा आया
आँखों के आगे अँधेरा छाया
जो देखा न था वो नज़र आया
उसका दर्द मेरे दिल तक आया

वह उसके जाने की घडी थी
ले जाने को उसे गाडी खड़ी थी
पर वह खुद नहीं चल सकती थी
नीलोफर बैसाखियों पर खड़ी थी

वह चली गयी वक्त चलता रहा
सिलसिले रुक गए मैं बढ़ता रहा
फिर कभी भी न आयी वो नज़र
बस दिल में रह गयी , नीलोफर

Neelofar: A Memory in Blue

I met her—but perhaps, never truly did.
She still lingers, like a scent I can’t rid.
A flash of her smile, electric and bright,
Paints my thoughts in colors of light.

She moved in next door one ordinary day,
But her eyes spoke in a familiar way.
How and when the story began—
I never knew, but she quietly ran
Into the corridors of my heart’s domain,
Like a guest who forgot to leave again.

With eyes of the ocean—calm and deep,
She’d glance, carefree, as if secrets she’d keep.
She laughed, she twirled like a gentle breeze—
I named her Neelofar, with ease.

My rooftop became a temple of gaze,
I’d wait for hours, lost in a daze.
Just to see her, just a fleeting look—
But only the walls my patience took.

Neither she confessed, nor did I—
Yet our silences filled the sky.
My eyes knew, my heart understood—
She was more than just a passing good.

But then one day, shadows fell—
What I saw, no words could tell.
My world turned dark, my chest grew tight—
She stood in pain, no longer light.

It was the hour of her final stay—
A vehicle waited to take her away.
But her feet refused, her steps defied—
Neelofar stood with crutches at her side.

She left. Time didn’t pause for me.
Life moved on, yet I couldn’t see
Her again—not even by chance.
She stayed in my soul, in a frozen trance.
